| Between January 2007 and December 2010, the abundance of medium-sized mammals was studied, with special focus on the Molina's hog-nosed skunk, Conepatus chinga (Molina, 1782), at four locations in southern Brazil. In this study, transect line methodology was used to obtain data for Distance Analyses. Transects were traveled by car at night, searching with spotlights along the edges of secondary roads in agricultural landscapes. Along 1,811 km, we obtained 620 observations of 20 mammal species. | The abundance of soil microarthropods from seven fragments of Araucaria Forest, Muitos Capões, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, was compared. The size of the fragments ranged from 0.25 ha to 35 ha, the two largest fragments are situated within the Aracuri Ecological Station and the remaining five are situated in a cattle ranching farm. In June 2000, three plots (10 m x 10 m) were established in the central area of each patch, and three soil cores (7 cm diameter x 6 cm deep) were taken per plot. The abundance of microarthropods in the upper six centimeters (soil + litter) varied between 63209 and 102704 ind.m-2, with oribatid mites (Acari, Cryptostigmata) being dominant in all fragments (between 46.9 % and 61.3 % of total individuals). | O trabalho objetivou identificar as espécies de abelhas sem ferrão (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Apini, Meliponina) presentes em três áreas de cerrado no Maranhão, nordeste do Brasil, por meio do levantamento de seus ninhos. Também foi objetivo do trabalho identificar e caracterizar os substratos vegetais utilizados como locais de nidificação. Pretendeu-se averiguar a abundância e a distribuição espacial de ninhos, bem como padrões de uso dos substratos para nidificação. Foram encontrados 73 ninhos pertencentes a 15 espécies. | O cascudo Loricariichthys platymetopon foi capturado pela primeira vez recentemente na região média do rio Paranapanema, tornando-se uma espécie abundante desde então. Aspectos reprodutivos dessa espécie foram analisados neste estudo, com base numa amostra de 1.044 exemplares provenientes do reservatório de Capivara. Foram avaliados a abundância, proporção sexual, RGS, IAR e o diâmetro dos ovócitos. Locais distantes da barragem apresentaram as maiores abundâncias, as fêmeas atingiram maiores tamanhos que os machos e a proporção sexual variou entre os trechos de coleta. | To estimate the populational fluctuation of Chrysomya Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 species and the relation of populational abundance around, six wind oriented trap (WOT) were placed in three distinct ecological areas (urban, rural and wild) in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, from February/1993 to January/1995. The flies were weekly collected. Captured species were Chrysomya albiceps Wiedmann, 1819, C. megacephala Fabricius, 1794 and C. putoria Wiedmann, 1830 with respective abundance of 64.5%, 19.7% and 0.9%, representing a total of 85.0% of 409,920 specimens of Calliphoridae. | Um estudo de dois anos foi desenvolvido no Parque Estadual do Turvo, município de Derrubadas, sul do Brasil, com o objetivo de avaliar a composição, abundância e riqueza de espécies de Pentatomoidea. As amostragens foram efetuadas nas primaveras de 2003 e 2004 (outubro) e nos outonos de 2004 e 2005 (maio), utilizando a metodologia do guarda-chuva entomológico, ao longo de duas trilhas do Parque. O esforço amostral foi medido em número de horas de coleta X número de coletores, totalizando 153 horas de amostragem. | Foi realizado levantamento de escorpiões em serrapilheira de três tipos de formações vegetais (florestas primárias, florestas secundárias e silviculturas) em área de Floresta com Araucária no Sul do Brasil. Para a coleta foram utilizadas armadilhas de queda ao longo de 20 meses. No total foram amostrados 165 escorpiões de apenas uma espécie identificada como Bothriurus signatus Pocock, 1893. Machos foram mais abundantes que fêmeas e jovens. A espécie foi mais abundante em áreas de floresta primária e silvicultura do que na floresta secundária. A maior atividade dos escorpiões foi registrada durante a primavera. | O presente estudo teve por objetivo conhecer a flutuação populacional e a constância de cicadelíneos presentes na vegetação herbácea de um pomar de laranja doce (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck), variedade Valência, em Montenegro, RS. O levantamento foi realizado com a metodologia da rede-de-varredura, tendo início em fevereiro de 2001 e finalizando-se em janeiro de 2002. | En este trabajo se presenta la caracterización de los ensambles de peces de la cuenca del río Suquía. Los peces fueron recolectados, desde 1998 al 2002, en dieciséis sitios ubicados en los principales ríos dentro de la cuenca: arroyo San Francisco, río Cosquín, río Yuspe, río San Antonio y río Suquía. Se estimó la abundancia relativa de cada especie, riqueza, diversidad y dominancia en cada sitio estudiado. This study aimed to determine the activity pattern of frugivorous bat species in an urban forest fragment in southwestern Amazonia. | Physalaemus henselii (Peters, 1872) is a little known leiuperid frog that has not been studied since the 1960s. Herein, we redescribe its advertisement call, and assess the female sexual cycle and the reproductive period on the basis of the macroscopic analysis of the ovaries and field observations. The Ovarian Size Factor (OSF) was calculated. The study was made in Departamento de Rivera, northern Uruguay. | Age and growth parameters of cachara Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum (Eigenmann & Eigenmann, 1889) (Siluriformes, Pimelodidae) (males and females) were estimated through the analysis of growth rings in spines of pectoral fins. Fish were collected from January to December 2007, in the area directly influenced by the Aproveitamento Múltiplo de Manso (APM Manso) and in the Cuiabá River (upper parts of the Pantanal).
